Blossom Hill Rough Cut 2

We showed our film to our demographic audience and they gave the following feedback:

Good Points- They enjoyed the song and thought that it added to the piece well. They also, liked the voiceovers within the piece and at the end as they felt this made it look like a real soap trailer.

Bad Points- Some people felt that having the singing and the voiceovers together there was a bit too much going on at the same time. Also, the volume of some of the voiceovers were too loud/quiet for the piece.

Improvements- Even though we like the song we have decided against it as we agree that the voiceovers need to be the main focus. Also, we are going to sort out the volume of the voiceovers so they are all the same and clear. We need to add in a transition between the bachelor and the business mans phone call to show time passing as we feel it is too quick. Also, we are going to film the final section of the trailer and put it in.

Soap Opera Magazine rough draft 2

We showed our magazine to our demographic audience and the feedback we gained was the following:

Good Points- Our demographic audience thought that the magazine cover was very colourful and eye catching. They thought that it would stand out on a shelf and entice people to buy it. They liked that it included some of the story lines and gave a hint to what they could expect to see from the soap opera. They liked that even though it contained a lot of information, it wasn't cluttered and was still clear and simple to read.

Bad Points- Our demographic audience thought that the top part of the magazine still needed a bit of work and they thought that the barcode would look better down the side. Some said that the orange font colour for the main cove line wasn't very clear and didn't stand out as much as it could.

Improvements- To improve our magazine we are going to add to the top half of the magazine and move the bar code down the left third. We are thinking of not including another storyline at the top
but maybe a free poster of one of the characters.

Poster rough draft 2

We showed our poster to our demographic audence and the feedback we got was the following:

Good Points - It is clear and shows the character well, the character in the red dress stands out and it is clear she is going to have a big role. It is simple yet effective as everything is there that needs to be. The ITV1 logo makes it look like a realistic poster.

Bad Points - The picture isn't good quality, the writing is all together and needs to be spaced out. There is a gap at the top that needs to be filled. A border could be added to tie it all together. The picture could be made a bit clearer. The Blossom Hill could be in  a different font to make it stand out.

Improvements- To improve we are going to get a clearer image for the poster to give it a more professional look. Also, we are going to add a border around the image to tie it all together and give it a real finish.

Music

After emailing several music companies for permission to use their tracks for our soap opera and hearing nothing back we decided to start searching online for royalty free piece to use as the soundtrack for our soap. We came across lots of different ones but each one we heard just wasn't right for our soap. We couldnt decide whether we wanted one with the genre of hiphop or pop so decided to listen to a selection. Here are some final ones we liked:

1.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nrJ6SR44oQ0 from 0 - 34s  POP
2.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hZaaHBEqN5A      POP
3.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rCo_NX3RVmg         POP
4.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gS10wrMsdnM   HIPHOP

But then we stumbled across a soundtrack and just started freestyling some lyrics and were quite happy with what we came up with. So we decided to take the backing track and come up with some lyrics and record it for our soap, this way it was personal to our soap and had lyrics to do with our soap opera, here are the lyrics:

'Hey Girl, I know you wanna be me,
Hey Boy, I know that you can see me.
Hey Mom, I really really love you but im sorry, ive got somewhere to be.
Blossom Hill Blossom Hill Blossom Hill Blossom Hill This is the place to be
Blossom Hill Blossom Hill Blossom Hill Blossom Hill This is our destiny
Blossom Hill Blossom Hill Blossom Hill Blossom Hill Our name in lights
Blossom Hill Blossom Hill Blossom Hill Blossom Hill Beautiful people tonight.
Blossom Hill Blossom Hill Blossom Hill Blossom Hill This is  the place to be
Blossom Hill Blossom Hill Blossom Hill Blossom Hill Beautiful people tonight.'

We have decided to get someone to sing these lyrics over the backing track and record it properly using mics and a recording system.

Rough Cut 1 Feedback

Trailer
We showed our rough cut to the demographic audience for our soap and received feedback from them to see what their impressions were of our trailer, poster and magazine. This is to gain feedback and make any changes that we hadn't thought of before. So far our trailer is only a rough cut and we are aware of that fact that there is still a lot missing but it was still helpful to receive both positive comments but also things they think we could improve on.

Some of the positive comments we received helped gain confidence in our trailer as we are aware of the parts that people thought worked well which would help when it comes to making our second rough cut. Some of the positive comments include a good setting. Most groups commented on how they liked where the trailer was set and how it’s different to other trailers. Another was the characters and costumes as the mise en scene was well thought out. Some groups commented on how the costumes the actors wore corresponded well with their character and the personality that we wanted to show. It revealed a lot about them as characters by the use of colour and connotations. Other positive comments include ones like good use of various shots, unique ideas and good use of lighting.

The demographic audience also gave us a few things they believe we could improve on after watching the first rough cut. What people mostly commented on was how continuity was not always accurate. However, we put that down to the trailer not yet being finished as we understand it does not yet fully make sense as not all scenes have been put in yet. The feedback for this did prove helpful as there were certain shots that they found discontinuous that we had not before noticed. Other improvements were ones such as no titles, voice overs or music which are all things we intend to include as we continue on improving our trailer.

Magazine
With our magazine rough cut most demographic groups commented on the use of images and how they thought the main image created the right impression for our new soap. They also liked the bold bright colours we used which follow the generic conventions of a magazine cover as it catches your eye and attracts you to it. For our own magazine cover we had to create a non-existing logo that we designed ourselves. Our magazine is called 'Soap World' so for the logo we had an image of Earth with the lettering wrapped around it. Some groups commented on how they liked the logo and thought it was an appropriate name and logo for a soap magazine.

Some of the improvements the other groups made were on minor things that we knew we had to improve on. The commented on how there were quite a few gaps that needed to be filled. To improve this we understand we need to include more images to fill every gap on the cover. One comment suggested something we had not previously picked up on which was a spelling mistake. This comment made us more aware of our accuracy with grammar on our magazine cover so when it came to our final cut everything including spelling was correct. Something that is considered on most magazine covers is the left third which shows the most important parts like the price, barcode and logo. In our first rough cut we had not yet properly considered this and some groups picked up on this. For our second magazine rough cut we will make sure that every aspect is considered.

Poster
For our poster we have an image of the character at the photo shoot to show their personalities and how they may come across in the soap. The other groups positively commented on our use of costume and how it was considered well. Our decisions when it came to clothing were well thought out as we wanted to make certain characters stand out more than others. This came across well as the groups commented on how they knew which character were the ones that were going to cause trouble because the colour of some of their costumes showed connotations of danger. They also liked the framing of the photo and how its effective that they are all stood together as a group but all show different storylines just by their body language and positioning.

Some things that could be improved were things like the font and colour. They did not feel it had enough colour or personality in the style of font and the positioning of the information. Some also felt there was a lack of information about the soap and when it begins. When it comes to creating our second rough cut things like changing the font are simple improvements that we know we can change to update the quality of our poster. We are confident that once these improvements are made for the trailer, magazine and poster that the quality would have largely improved and that because of the feedback we received, we will be able to make the correct improvements to overall enhance the quality of them all.
